Where the wild things aren’t…

Many of us move to London to teach and travel, but sometimes completely skip exploring the beauty of England (which isn’t just London surprisingly!).

Here is Vibe Teacher Luke exploring the wild woods of Shropshire with his family.

England harbours some of the real gems of Europe, and last weekend we ventured into the Shropshire woods on a ‘glamping’ holiday to find out what lurks in the shadows, and this is what we discovered:

  • There is nothing that can kill you! No poisonous snakes, deadly spiders, man-eating sharks, killer jellyfish, bunyips or drop-bears.
  • You can go almost anywhere! All over the UK there are rights known as public right of way. You can use your right to roam on open access land including mountains, moors, heaths, downs, common land and some land around the England coast path. You can even ramble across some private land, if there is a local tradition, or right, of access.
  • You can’t really get lost! You are never too far from a village, town or pub – as a general rule of thumb, just keep walking and you’ll stumble across some form of civilisation!
  • Glamping is a great alternative to camping, if you still like some of the comforts of home – we had a safari tent with an outdoor hot tub! There are a heap of different options in beautiful locations all over the UK, including safari tents, yurts, tree -houses, log cabins, caravans, shepherds huts and tipis.

We certainly found one of the UK’s gems! All in all, we had a cracking weekend as a family in the Shropshire woods, living the simple life – exploring, reading, playing games, swimming and cooking on an open fire. No cars, buses, sirens and traffic – how’s the serenity! Now I have to get back to teach in London and inspire better education…
