Belfast, Galway and the love struck Giant: Allen’s Ireland Road Trip

Viber Allen continues his journey through the Emerald Isle, Ireland with a stop in the rugged north, Belfast, before venturing to the beautiful west coast.

DAY THREE: Giant’s Causeway and Belfast

Shrouded in mist, we drove to the world famous Giant’s Causeway. Depending on whether you want to go with the geological explanation of columnar jointing or the Irish legend of a love struck giant, this was an incredible morning of nature putting on an incredible show of mountains, mist and turbulent oceans.

The magnificent, mysterious geological formation that is the Giant’s Causeway.

Everyone was a bit on edge about coming into Belfast, but once we started the Black Cab tour we quickly discovered that after all of the past conflicts, progress has been made in the past few years. Our own Protestant cabbie revealed he had married a Catholic and they now have two children. A Protestant and Catholic living under one roof…. love wins out!

Troubled past … One of several painted memorials in the streets of Belfast.

A night at Filthy McNasty’s (I kid you not) had us in the beer garden downing some crisp Bulmer Cider.

DAY FOUR: Galway

Originally founded by 14 merchant families, Galway is a beautiful city with a quaint village feel.

We spent our sunny afternoon down by the river at a local food market. After a quick bite, we kicked off our evening with a pub crawl.

Keri led us on a trip around town sampling 5 of the best pubs. “Welcome shots” and beer pong mixed with live music ensured another great (albeit slightly hazy) night!
