From the thriving metropolis of Gore on NZ’s South Island, the most densely bearded man in Vibe history, Cameron, has embraced the London life! Whether you know him as Cam, Cammo, Winsloe, Winners, or Dinners (after a “winner winner chicken dinner” saga), you’ll always see him up for a pint or playing sport when he’s not working at Vibe in the Green team!
Tell us about your story with Vibe
I moved over to London with a few mates from home. We’d grown up in a little rural town on the South Island of NZ on a hobby farm and wanted to explore the world a little more. After moving to London in 2015 I worked as a Primary PE teacher until 2017 when my mates who were already in the Vibe office suggested that I’d enjoy it. I was up for a new challenge so started in April last year.
What do you love most about working with Vibe?
I love being part of the Vibe community. At all our events there are just such great people to hang out with. Working with friends in the office as well as teachers I’ve become mates with has been awesome. They recently supported a charity campaign I started when I was shaving my beard for the first time in over a year!
What’s the best thing about living in London?
London is such a good base for travelling – access to Europe is so much easier and cheaper than from home. As well as that, everyone is always up for a social game of sport – which I am all about!
What’s your favourite area in London? Why?
I love Clapham. It’s stereotypically Aussie & Kiwi central but I think that’s because of the awesome parks and great pubs!
What’s your favourite pub in London?
The Four Thieves in Clapham is the bees knees!
What’s one of your best travel experiences?
The Greek Islands is a must for anyone. I’d also highly recommend pub crawling your way around Ireland.
What are your top tips for teachers in London?
Give supply teaching a go so you can experience different schools to see what suits you for a full-time role. If you’re not from London, there are amazing opportunities and roles that you don’t get to experience back at home.
What/who are you most inspired by?
Sir Edmund Hillary – apart from climbing Mt Everest and trekking to the South Pole he did so much for NZ & education; as well as doing loads of charity work and setting up schools in Nepal.
What is your Yearbook Quote/quote that you live by?
“A dream doesn’t become reality through magic, it takes sweat, determination and hard work” – Colin Powell
Thank you! :)))
