He loves waffles, chocolate and beer. Meet Fabrice, Vibe’s resident Belgian! You might know him better as Fab, Fabulous, Fabiano or Chubby. This trilingual PE teacher has a history running summer sports camps and doing winter ski seasons in France. He is known by some for his “urban winter sport” exploits which involved snowboarding behind cars or down snow-covered staircases in his hometown. These days he’s settled in London after meeting a London girl on a ski lift and getting engaged (not on a ski lift).
Tell us about your story with Vibe
When I first moved over I got a job in a customer service company that specialised in working with Dutch speakers. I got bored as it was a little mundane and decided to get back into teaching after the short time away from it. I got in contact with Vibe through a Belgian friend (also PE teacher) who was already working with them. I taught as a supply teacher in many different primary schools for 2 terms, then got a full-time PE placement for the next 2 years. I wanted to redirect my career but stay in education so contacted Vibe to talk about new opportunities, which ended up with me coming into the office!
What do you love most about working with Vibe?
I love the variety and flexibility. A day in the office starts with a rush, then calms down a bit and ends in a flurry again which means there’s never a dull moment. Because we still go out to teach in our schools, often at short notice, every day can be exciting.
What’s the best thing about living in London?
The ability to do whatever you want, whenever you want, and however you want to do it. On top of that there is so much history in this city you’ll NEVER get bored.
What’s your favourite area in London? Why?
I guess any area in London that’s not on the standard tourist routes; I love places off the beaten path. If I had to pin point an area I’d say Wandsworth, as it feels like it’s own little town in a big city.
What’s your favourite pub in London?
Any pub that sells good ale and big burgers!
What’s one of your best travel experiences?
Definitely Bali! This was my first non-European travel experience and I finally got to see that part of the world. The food was amazing, the people were amazing and I had my first diving experience. Driving a moped through the crazy traffic was also an experience that I managed to survive…just.
