Vibe Yearbook: A Bright Kiwi Spark

Shaina Low (Class of 2010) is one of the brightest and most bubbly members of our Vibe family.

After being introduced to Vibe by a friend, Shaina worked as a vibrant and enthusiastic early years teacher in our schools before bouncing into the office as the captain of our Resource team. Over 5 years, she was the wide, cheeky grin of the face of Vibe, welcoming new candidates during their first days and making sure all their paperwork had its ‘Is’ dotted and its ‘Ts’ crossed.

Not a day would go past where Shaina did not inspire her team, always making sure they kept a sense of fun and playfulness in the spirit of their work. At Vibe, we think communication is at its best when delivered with love, and Shaina demonstrated this in bucket loads.

Shaina now lives in Mt Maunganui, New Zealand, with her husband Jason and their new puppy Jeffery. She’s continuing to inspire and motivate others in her work. We caught up with her at our Hamilton alumni event, and in between a whole lotta laughter and playful reminiscing, asked her to share with us her best memories of her journey with Vibe.

Tell us about your story with Vibe…

I was introduced to Vibe by a friend I went to school with – she suggested I get in touch to find work as a supply teacher. That’s exactly what I did and the experience was wonderful! I taught at lots of different schools and met lots of new people at Vibe parties. Vibe was a great introduction to London for me, helping me to settle in and feel at home.

What did you love most about working with Vibe?

Vibe is a very cool teaching agency with an extremely lovely, vibrant, youthful, intelligent and physically fit team! It’s a very special company to work with and for.

What’s the best thing about living in London?

London’s full of endless opportunities. I love the atmosphere, the liveliness – all the cool bars, pubs and beautiful parks.

What’s your favourite area in London?

I lived in West London, but I loved to go to East London on the weekends. Camden, Shoreditch – they’re really cool places with lots of trendy cafes and bars.

What’s one of your best travel experiences?

The Greek Islands! Hands-down the best relaxation holiday destination. I love the blue water, the white sand and all the resorts. I would go back in a heartbeat if I could!

What are your top tips for teachers in London?

Always be prepared – London has a lot of diversity across its schools and no two days will be the same. Always have some tricks up your sleeve. And make the most of the school holidays! Save your money, jump on a plane and see as much as you can! Also, come along to all the events held by Vibe. London’s a transient place, people come and go. Vibe has a great community where you get to meet lots of new people and make instant friends in the city.

What are you most inspired by?

People who are completely happy. And they seem to have everything together… And they can travel and they have a great job that they really enjoy doing. A lot of those people have often taken risks to get to where they want to be… And so, I’m inspired by people who have lived that journey and have come out on top, and are doing really well and feeling happy about their life.
